WIGAN ATHLETIC 1
Camara 51
EVERTON 0
Report by Paul Chialton
Henri Camara's first league goal of the season guided Latics to a much needed, and much deserved win against Everton at the JJB.
The Senegalese striker made his introduction at half-time and immediately had an impact with his strength and pace causing problems for the visitor's defence.
The breakthrough came five minutes after the break when Michael Brown's long ball down the right wing found the charging Antonio Valencia. The Ecuadorian cut inside Joleon Lescott and squared for Camara to slot home past Tim Howard and leave Steve Bruce jumping for joy.
It had been a brave and bold display from Latics who looked the better side for the majority of the game, bullying Everton out of the game and threatening when going forward.
Yakubu, Louis Saha and co. couldn't find the key to break through the defence who stood tall on numerous occasions, with Lee Cattermole giving an outstanding performance in the middle of the park.
Wigan's resiliance and desire to win squeezed the life out of Everton, who had few ideas going forward and were punished by the surging attacks of Wilson Palacios, Valencia and Cattermole.
From back to front it was a magnificent display from Steve Bruce's men who shone all night to earn themselves a valued win and bring the crowd to their feet at the final whistle.
