RESERVE REVIEW FROM BARROW

Posted on: Thu 02 Sep 2010

First Team Coach satisfied with performance and knows there's more to come

Graham Barrow explained how he feels there is plenty more still to come from his reserve team after a strong display away to Liverpool in their season opener.

The game finished 0-0 with Latics looking well organised and showing flashes of their good form from last season, and Barrow is confident the team will continue to develop as the season progresses;

"In terms of the organisation of the lads at the back I thought they were outstanding," said Barrow.

"Against most teams in this league that can quite often be the most important aspect of your set-up.

"I think Mike Pollitt has had the quietest game for a long time, which is credit to the work we did ahead of him.

"There's still a bit of work to be done in regards to ball-retention and creating chances going forward, so that's where our focus will be.

"But I can't fault their attitude one bit. Individually and as a team they worked-hard as they always do, and did manage to threaten the goal on a couple of occasions.

"In all honesty though I think we needed the game to get ourselves up and running and to get into a bit of rhythm again."

Barrow went on to explain his pleasure at how much the team have developed over the last twelve months, and the upwards curve they continue to follow;

He said; "I think the best way to sum-up the afternoon is that we're pleased, but know that there's more to come.

"If you compare the two clubs and the money invested into both sides, I think it's a huge credit to our lads that they've come away deserving more from this game, capable of getting more out of these games.

"We're going in the right direction though, I think twelve months ago this was a game we may have come away with nothing from, so it's been a real sign of our development and how far we've come it a short space of time."
