A Callum Morris brace seemed to be enough to claim all three points against Burnley, until a late equaliser from the home side forced a stalemate.

A disappointing first-half saw Latics struggle to have an influence on proceedings and after conceding the opener after 15 minutes they were dealt another blow when Jordan Rugg was stretchered off with an ankle injury.

However things improved vastly after the break, with Latics moving the ball round with composure and patience before finally making a breakthrough.

Morris, who has performed excellently lately, was set up nicely on the edge of the six-yard box after creative work by Tomasz Kupisz, and slotted home past the helpless Nicky Weaver.

It seemed only a matter of time before another goal would follow and Morris was in the right place at the right time again 15 minutes before the end. Jonathan Breeze's corner found the head of Liam Willis and fell to the feet of the goalscorer who turned and finished calmly.

Once again showed tremendous strength of character and prolonged periods of real quality Latics started to control the game and looked to be cruising to all three points.

However Wesleigh Fletcher had other ideas, and minutes before the final whistle the striker managed to break free of the defence and chip the ball over Lee Nicholls to equalise.

Latics' determination still managed to carve out a half-chance for Morris to grab a winner and his hat-trick, but the effort was snubbed out by Burnley's back-line.

Overall a feeling of disappointment after a valiant second-half performance, but of course all thoughts are with Jordan Rugg in hoping his injury is not as bad as first appeared.

Latics: Nicholls; Girvan, Meace, Jukes, Mustoe; Breeze, Redmond; Kupisz, Morris, Serrano (Amos, 83); Rugg (Willis, 39)

Subs: Williams, Lewis
