Keith Bertschin said he was disappointed his team narrowly lost a match in which they carved several great chances, but he still came away with a few positives.

"We just lost our way a little bit at times," said Bertschin, "which was a little disappointing. I couldn't fault their attitude but we need to be cuter at times. There were too many mistakes."

Confusion between centre halves Nick Meace and Adam Buxton led to Hull's Will Atkinson sliding in the only goal of the game midway through the second half.

Meace then conceded a penalty, which was well saved by 16 year-old keeper Lee Nicholls.

Bertschin said he has been particularly pleased with the form of the rookie keeper.

"Considering he's still at school, he's really benefiting from this experience. He only joins us full time next season. He listens, he learns and I'm looking forward to having him at the club."

Bertschin said he was also pleased with striker Callum McManaman, who has stepped up to the plate in the enforced absence of Tomasz Cywka. He carved out Latics' best chance, spinning neatly before striking the upright with a great effort.

"Again, he's done well. He looks lively, he takes on board what we tell him and he's improving with every game."

Latics get an early chance at revenge against the Tigers, when they play the return fixture at Robin Park Arena, next Tuesday, April 7
