Latics new South Korean Won Hee Cho came through his first 90 minutes in a Latics shirt unscathed and impressed in the heart of midfield as Keith Bertschin's men were perhaps unlucky to only draw against Liverpool.
Cho's first taste of English football was a pretty entertaining affair with Latics twice being pegged back by the Reds. He looked tidy in midfield but also showed real guile to set up the second goal.
Latics went ahead when Matty Hampson's cross found Callum McManaman, who beat one player before being brought down by Martin Kelly in the box.. McManaman got up to send keeper Dean Bouzanis the wrong way from the spot kick.
Liverpool were level a minute later when Krisztian Nemeth broke free, however. Mike Pollitt initially parried but Victor Palsson slotted home the loose ball.
Latics scored the goal of the game on the stroke of half-time with a stunning counter-attack.
McManaman fed a pass down the line to Cho, who showed terrific presence of mind to square the ball across the box Jon Routledge to fire home past his former team - a sweet moment for him no doubt.
CHO FAR CHO GOOD - Good debut for the Korean
The lively McManaman had two other opportunities, While Joe Holt and Matty Hampson also had chances and in the end Latics were made to pay when Vincent Weijl struck a good shot to draw the Reds level a second time.
Keith Bertschin said: "It was another great game, they all seem to be pretty entertaining don't they with this team?
"They showed a lot of guts and it's amazing what the composure of a Cho or an Edman can do to settle the rest down.
"A little disappointed we let them back in twice but I can't be over-critical."
