A quite extraordinary game at Robin Park Arena in which Keith Bertschin's Latics came from a goal down to lead 4-1 after totally dominating the first hour, then inexplicably crumbled.

Tomasz Cywka scored a brace and was the best player on the field, with fellow Pole Tomasz Kupisz and Joe Holt from the spot the other scorers as Latics magnificently set up a seemingly unassailable lead.

But then total disaster for Bertschin's boys.

United scored three goals in a six minute spell of quite atrocious defending before another error led to the winner by United, who by that time had had double scorer Frederico Mancheda sent off for a straight red card.

Bertschin said: "I was so pleased their heads didn't go down after conceding the early goal and they fought back so well to lead 4-1. Credit United for not giving up at that stage but the really disappointing aspect is that apart from the second goal, it was all silly errors that led to the United goals, totally basic lapses of concentration. I'm still wondering how we lost that match."

Dany Welbeck had put United ahead early on with a neat finish, but then Ben Watson's corner was headed in at the far post by the outstanding Cywka. Latics went in ahead at the break after Tomasz
Kupisz' smart finish in the box, racing on to Craig Mahon's ball to lob United keeper Ben Amos.

Cywka lobbed Amos from close range to convert an Erik Edman free-kick for number three, before Joe Holt slotted home the penalty having been tripped in the box himself.

That was when it all went wrong for Latics, but even then, Edman had a late chance to equalise when Amos spilled a cross, but his effort flew agonisingly wide.
