Latics reserve manager Keith Bertschin was disappointed by his teams performance in there 1-0 defeat to Liverpool Reserves at Warrington's Halliwell Jones Stadium last night.

Daniel Pacheco's strike just past the hour mark separated the two sides in a game Bertschin felt was a great opportunity for the team to continue their good run of from in the league.

But having squandered some excellent opportunities and after putting in a good first-half display, the players were unable to make a breakthrough and ultimately suffered the consequences.

There were some positive periods in the game where Latics could and should have hurt their opponents.



Tomasz Cywka's miss in the opening ten minutes was probably the best chance. The Pole was one-on-one with the 'keeper but unable to produce a finish.

"I thought we had a good opportunity tonight", said Bertschin, "Games change with a goal and we had two or three fabulous chances before Liverpool had got anywhere near our goal, and we didn't take them."

Bertschin also stressed the important stage these players are at in their career and that they need to take these chances to progress: "It's so important this year for a lot of our players to start making a mark for themselves and I think they feel, as I do, that missed a trick tonight."

The team will now prepare for Tuesday's game at home to Everton Reserves and continue what has been a good season so far.

"We've come away without any real injuries and the great thing about this game is that you've always got next week."
