Nigerian striker Julius Aghahowa scored in front of the watching Latics Steve Bruce and Eric Black - that's two in two for the Reserves now - as a highly impressive Latics swept past Newcastle United's second string at Robin Park Arena on Tuesday night.

Aggy swivelled quickly to fire into the bottom corner with an instinctive finish midway through the first half, with Honduran left back Maynor Figueroa poking home the second after a good move on the hour mark, his first goal for the club; he looked very strong and quick at left back.

Keith Bertschin's side were by far the better team throughout, young 'keeper Russell Saunders hardly having a save to make, and there were great performances everywhere on the park, said Bertschin.

"It's difficult to single anybody out really," he said. "Aggy was very lively, Erik Hagen looked solid alongside Andreas Granqvist, but really they all put a great shift in, which is very encouraging."

LATICS: Saunders, Moore, Figueroa, Hagen, Granqvist, Cwyka, Montrose, Skoko, Olembe, Bouaouzan (Kupisz 75), Aghahowa
Subs not used:  Horn, Ashworth, Kupisz, Mahon, McCaughtrie
