Salomon Olembe, Rachid Bouaouzan and Ryan Taylor stepped their bids for first team inclusion as Mark Seagraves' men lost out to a Liverpool side that was just a little more experienced.

A record crowd of 1,200 was in attendance at the JJB Stadium as Seagraves put out a young side, and they were forced into an uphill battle when they fell behind after just five minutes, Jordy Brouwer netting from close range.

Latics fought their way back into the game and might have scored through through Chris McCaughtrie, Craig Mahon and Lewis Montrose.  Liverpool extended their lead after an hour, and then again after 83 minutes, and although Mike Pollitt was forced into a few good saves, the score line was a little harsh on the night.

Olembe, playing the full 90 minutes at left back, looked comfortable, while Ryan Taylor played another 86 minutes in his comeback. Rachid Bouaouzan came off at the break.
