PREMIER LEAGUE 4 SPORT

Posted on: Wed 27 Jan 2010

Offering young people a chance to take part in sport.

All 20 clubs in football's top flight will link up with community sport clubs to help attract young people in the Wigan area and this initiative will help the Government's ambition to offer young people five hours of sport a week, as part of its 2012 legacy plans. It will also address the drop-off in sports participation when young people leave secondary school.

The PL4Sport project offers young people a chance to take part in 4 different Olympic sports using the hook of Wigan Athletic Football Club. Opportunities in badminton, volleyball, judo and table tennis are offered to the young people in the Wigan borough through 20 separate clubs. Wesley will be responsible for the management of the project at local level ensuring the smooth running of the project.

Structure

16 high schools within the Wigan borough will be home to a satellite club in 1 of the 4 sports. All clubs will be free of charge and open to anyone to attend. From this will be four hub clubs (community sports clubs) linked to each of the sports and this will provide a pathway for talented participants to progress to. If you would like more information on a club near you don't hesitate to call Wesley Partington on 01942 824599 or alternatively email at pl4sport@wiganathletictg.com .
