PREMIER LEAGUE SCHOOL TOURNAMENT
The Wigan section of the Premier League Schools Tournament was held at Robin Park Sports Complex in the first week of December and was organised by the Wigan Athletic Community Trust team.
U13s Girls Tournament.
The Under 13s Girls tournament was held on Thurs 7th December 2006. There were a total of 17 teams entered into the tournament which then branched off into 4 Leagues.
Out of each League the winners and runners up moved on a step further to the Quarter Finals
The four teams through to the semi finals:
Deanery were the first ones through, they faced St. John Fisher, followed by Lowton who faced Hawkley Hall B. St. John Fisher cruised to the final with a 3 nil victory against Deanery, whilst Lowton and Hawkley Hall played out a goalless draw, followed by two minutes Golden goal, with Lowton screaming one in with less than a minute to go, making up for the penalty miss earlier on in the game.

St. John Fisher v Lowton
St. John Fisher started the stronger team with some good passing and link up play, followed by a goal early on with a great strike. St. John Fisher continued applying the pressure and scored another goal, making the score 2 nil within the first half.
Second half and Lowton came back with a fight, scoring a good goal from near the half way line, making it 2 -1. Lowton did not give up, and produced another goal making it 2-2. Game on!!
With neither side able to clinch the winner, the game went into extra time! 4 minutes golden goal. Extra time was a close affair with no side able to break the deadlock, the tournament was going to be decided on penalties.
Each team was given 3 penalties. Lowton stepped up first taking the Lead, Fisher equalised, Lowton regained the lead with their second, Fisher stepped up to take second and missed, all Lowton had to do was score! Lowton Stepped up.Missed, piling the pressure on Fisher who had to score, they did making it two goals each sudden death, Lowton scored first, fisher were lucky with their equaliser as the ball was struck the Fisher penalty taker slipped but somehow the ball deceived the keeper with a devilish bounce, Lowton to take second and struck the ball wide. The tables had turned and all Fisher had to do was score, they did, taking the victory, and moving to the next stages.

Under 11's Tournament.
The under 11s tournament was held on Monday 4th December. There were 6 leagues, with 7 teams and another 3 leagues with 6 teams, making a total of 39 teams involved in the tournament.
Winner of Group A-St Marys & St Johns
Winner of Group B- St Thomas
Winner of Group C- St Andrews
Winner of Group D- Our Lady Aspull
Winner of Group E- St Wilfrids
Winner of Group F- Westfield
After the closely contested first stages we moved onto the second group phase which consisted of 2 leagues with 3 teams in each. The first group consisted of St Wilfrids, Our Lady Aspull and Westfield. St Wilfrids won the group comfortably with 2 wins. The second group consisted of St Marys & St Johns, St Thomas and St Andrews, this group was closely contested although St Andrews sneaked through on goal difference.
The final was a close contest between St Wilfrids and St Andrews. St Wilfrids got to the final boasting a 100 percent record in the group stages winning all their 7 games. St Andrews also eased through to the final only dropping 4 points out of a possible total of 24 points.
The final started edgy as both teams were understandably nervous and anxious with a place in the regional finals at stake. Neither team could break the deadlock in normal time therefore the game was decided on golden goal, the teams had 1 minute of extra time to try and find a goal and it came in the dying seconds.
St Wilfrids won a free kick 15 yards out from goal the ball was layed off to the side and was curled round into the far corner, it was a goal worthy of winning any final. The St Wilfrids players ran over to the scorer in jubilation as they celebrated their goal and their path to the regional finals.
