Former player John Doolan was appointed as the club's new Under 18s coach in November 2011 - taking charge of the Wigan Athletic youth team on a day to day basis following the departure of Dave Watson to Newcastle.

The 43 year-old Liverpudlian has a decade of coaching experience working at both Liverpool and Everton academies, where he has been involved at all ages, right up to Under 18s and Reserve team level.

As a player, Doolan signed for the club in 1992, going on to make 38 appearances, scoring five goals, including a spell in the same team with Roberto Martinez.
