Watson joined Latics in April 2008 and is responsible for the monitoring and development of the club's youth team, and his experience in the game is an invaluable asset to the club.

Watson began his playing career at Norwich City and after 212 appearances for the Canaries, went on to play for hometown club Everton.

A 15-year-spell at Goodison Park saw Watson become captain and claim the Division One (old) title in 1987 and FA Cup in 1995.

After his playing career Watson briefly took the role of manager at the toffees before taking the helm at Tranmere Rovers in 2001.
