DIRECTIONS

Parking Restrictions

There is no parking at the ground. Extensive parking facilities in the city centre, a short walk or metro journey from St James' Park.

By road from the North
Leave A1 at A167 junction signed City (Centre). Novotel is on the right as you leave A1. Filter left and follow the signs into the City which is a journey of 3 miles. After crossing two roundabouts, still following the A167 continue down the dual carriageway for a further mile, past the first City Centre (North & West) signs and exit the A167 where it is signed City Centre North (also signed for RVI, Haymarket and Universities) onto the B1318. At top of slip road turn right and then left following RVI sign. At next roundabout turn right and continue past RVI (on right) through 2 sets of pedestrian lights bearing left at the Dental Surgery towards Gallowgate. Follow the road round turning right past Barker & Stonehouse. The stadium is on your right.

From the South
From the A1(M), after Washington Services and Junction 65, the motorway divides - keep left following the signs for the A1. Take the centre or right hand lane and continue following signs for Newcastle and Airport.  Pass the Angel of the North on the right and continue for a further 3 miles before turning off left on the A184 signed Gateshead/Newcastle (Centre).Continue for 1.5 miles then take the right hand lane signed A189 to Newcastle. This takes you over the Redheugh Bridge which leads into St. James' Boulevard. After 0.5 miles turn left at Gallowgate roundabout and stadium is on the right.

From the East
Follow the A1058 (Coast Road) into Newcastle. Continue through Cradlewell and keep following signs for the City Centre. Continue over 2 mini roundabouts and then bear right following the signs for A167(M), A696 & A1(M) to Jedburgh/Morpeth. Drive in the left lane and then filter across to the left side of the road to exit on the first slip road on the left signed City Centre (North). This brings you down to the Haymarket where you turn right at the first set of lights. Pass the University on your left and at next roundabout turn left, signed RVI & Gallowgate. Continue past RVI (on right) through 2 sets of pedestrian lights bearing left at the Dental Surgery towards Gallowgate. Follow the road round turning right past Barker & Stonehouse. The stadium is on your right.

From the West
Follow the A69 into Newcastle, cross the A1 roundabout and follow the A186 (West Road) signed City (West). After 2 miles you will see the General Hospital on your left. Immediately after the Hospital turn left signed Arthurs Hill/RVI. After 200 yards turn right at traffic lights down Arthurs Hill and continue straight down hill into Stanhope Street. Continue straight on for 0.5 miles and at roundabout at bottom of hill turn right into Barrack Road. Stadium is on the left.

Public Transport
Railway: Newcastle is on the East Coast Main Line route, served by GNR and Virgin railways (Newcastle Central Station, Tel: 08457 225333 or 0191 277 8000). St. James' Park is only a short ½ mile walk from the Central Station. Upon arriving at Newcastle, turn left when you walk out of the station onto Neville Street and head towards the Centre for Life building which you will see on the left side of the road. Walk past the Centre for Life, across one set of traffic lights and at the next set of lights, almost immediately afterwards, turn right into St James' Boulevard. You will be able to see St. James' Park ahead of you at the top of St. James' Boulevard.

Metro
Newcastle also has its own Metro rail system which is underground within the City Centre. The stadium is served by its own Metro station adjacent to the ground (St James Metro) with the other City Centre stations (Haymarket, Monument and Central Station) all a very short walk from St. James' Park.

Bus Routes
Gallowgate or Haymarket bus stations (0191 232 4211).

Air
Newcastle International Airport is situated six miles to the north of the city (Tel: 0191 286 0966). Travel to St. James' Park may either be by bus, taxi or by the Metro Train link which takes just under 25 minutes.

AROUND THE GROUND

Local things of interest: The MetroCentre shopping mall across the Tyne in Gateshead is simply massive. Check it out if you have a couple of days spare. Newcastle's own shopping mall can be found in Eldon Square.

Pubs
Between St James' Park and the train station you will find the Bigg market area, where the young folk hang out. If you want a pre or post match drink in a slightly more subtle atmosphere, then try the more traditional Haymarket area or the redeveloped Quayside part of town, to the south of Bigg market, which is a little more refined, if a touch expensive. A family option is the Bridge Hotel, at the north end of the High Level Bridge. If you don't fancy trawling around the many crowded bars and pubs that Newcastle has to offer then you can get a drink at the ground. (Note: away supporters are generally expected to hide colours).

Local Eateries
Just a goal-kick from St. James' Park you'll find the Stowell Street area which is better known as China Town, and is packed with Chinese Restaurants. Food from all four corners of the world is served at the numerous pavement café bars and restaurants which seem to be springing up all over the city.
