- Nick Chadwick’s side now 11 unbeaten.
Wigan Athletic’s under-18 side continued their fine form in the second-half of the campaign with a 3-0 win at Accrington Stanley on Saturday afternoon, a win that extends Nick Chadwick’s side’s unbeaten run to 11 matches.
Callum Lang scored twice to take his scoring run to ten goals in six games for the under-18s and development squad, whilst Chris Merrie was also on the mark.
Latics were ahead after just three minutes as Luke Burgess’ long ball over the top was met by Lang, who controlled brilliantly before finishing from the edge of the box.
Merrie made it 2-0 after 30 minutes, after winning the ball on the left at the start of the move, Merrie finished from the edge of the box after link up between Tom Powell and Mwiya Malumo.
In a dominant performance, Latics remained in control for the majority of the game but didn’t add a third until the 84th minute when Malumo won the ball high up the pitch after an Accrington goal kick and was fouled in the area to win a penalty, which Lang converted.
Latics: Roberts, Golden, Taylor, Hilton, Stubbs, Merrie (Downey 45), Gelhardt (Jolley 77), Burgess (McGuffie 82), Powell (Randell 69), Malumo, Lang.
