Wigan Athletic Academy teams took part in the four day residential Keele Cup tournament this summer, with the Under 9s crowned champions of their age group after remaining unbeaten in all seven of their games, winning five and drawing two.
The Under 13s and Under 11s also took part in the tournament, which ran from Tuesday 29 July to Friday 1 August.
The trip doubled up as a training camp with the teams completing various activities.
Latics' Under 13s managed to reach the final and only lost out to a Category One Academy - Stoke City, as well as facing Walsall and a number of overseas teams en-route.
With the Under 9s being the youngest official Academy age group - This was their first tournament as a group and with some of the boys having only signed two months ago.
Foundation Phase Lead Coach Jake Campbell who attended the competition was delighted with the club’s performances, saying:
"The Under 9s were fantastic and it should be considered a great achievement what with the boys being our youngest team.
"All three of our sides represented the club and themselves fantastically well and should be proud of their achievements from the week.
"The trip was about far more than just the football, each of the players had achieved success in their own, individual ways - be that being away from home for the first time, or performing well on the pitch."
The Under 11s also received particular praise from Campbell for the way they played, as he added:
"The boys represented the club brilliantly and were a true advert for the Academy’s expansive possession based style of play.
"They played a total of seven games - winning five and drawing two - finishing as runners up in their group and only missing out narrowly on a place in the final to Blackburn Rovers."
