Latics maintain unbeaten start to season with second league clean sheet in a row.
Wigan Athletic’s Under 18s kept another clean sheet on Saturday, to make it two consecutive games unbeaten at the start of the Youth Alliance campaign.

Another impressive defensive display saw Peter Atherton’s young Latics record their second Youth Alliance clean sheet in a row with a 0-0 draw on the Wirral.
Following up from last week’s season opening 1-0 victory over Rochdale, Latics can feel hard done by not to have walked away from their second game with another three points, had their finishing been slightly more composed.
Chances were created throughout the game, with midfield dominance showing in the second half, but Latics’ coach Atherton said the point is a good result as his side continue to progress.
“It was a good, solid performance from which we created a number of chances.
“Had we not created chances then maybe I would be concerned, but the game had the feeling that if we had scored one we would have kicked on.
“The midfield lads in particular impressed me in the second half. Adrian (Purzycki) and Josh (Gregory) dominated the battle in the middle and they also helped the back four to prevent Tranmere from creating their own chances.”
