Community Trust basketball programme sees young people take part in national competition.

Young people from a basketball programme run by Wigan Athletic Community Trust took part in a national three-v-three competition in Manchester last weekend.

The squad of four budding Globetrotters all attend St John Fisher High School and are regular participants at basketball coaching at the Wigan Youth Zone organised by the Community Trust as part of the Premier League 4 Sport scheme.

Premier League 4 Sport Co-ordinator Zac Taylor said:

“The tournament was a great experience for the lads and they were really unlucky not to get out of their group.

“We have been running coaching sessions at the Youth Zone since last October and they are proving really popular. In partnership with England Basketball and the Youth Zone we will be running more competitions and matches for the young people over the coming months.”

Basketball sessions for 12 – 19 year olds are held between 7pm and 8pm every Monday and Thursday at the Wigan Youth Zone.

In addition to basketball as part of the Premier League 4 Sport programme Wigan Athletic Community Trust organises sessions in athletics, badminton, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.

For information about these sessions please contact Premier League 4 Sport Co-ordinator Zac Taylor on 01942 488 530 or e-mail z.taylor@wiganathleticct.com
