Wigan Athletic will walk out at Wembley this Saturday led by 9-year-old Elliot Tucker who recently won the prize in a competition on the Team Latics website in association with the Football Association.
Junior supporters were asked to say in no more than 20 words why they thought “We Can Do It.”
Elliot’s answer was selected as the winning entry from over 200 hopefuls by a panel of Wigan Athletic staff which included Chief Executive Jonathan Jackson.
“Our town may be small but we will make ourselves tall. We CAN do it again, believe in Wigan”
On hearing the news that he had been chosen to lead out the team at Wembley, Elliot said: “I felt like all of my dreams had come true.
“I was shocked but very excited at the same time. I love Wigan and it is an honour to able to this.”
Chief Executive Jonathan Jackson said “It was very difficult to choose a winner as there were lots of very good entries, many of whom perfectly captured the essence of the football club and our current run in the most prestigious cup competition in the world.
“Elliot’s words stood out though, and everybody at Wigan Athletic hopes he enjoys this special occasion.”
