Latics 5-a-siders give Bolton a game

Before Saturday’s local derby against Bolton Wanderers a group of youngsters from Atherton took part in a five a side competition against young people from Bolton.

The players are all involved in the Premier League Kicks project organised by Wigan Athletic Community Trust and as well as taking part in the games they also had chance to watch the nail biting Championship clash.

As part of the Premier League Kicks project, the Community Trust runs football and sports sessions for hundreds of 12- 19 year olds each week at different venues across Wigan.

Project Co-ordinator Tom Drake said: “Kicks is all about giving young people opportunities so it was great to take the lads over to Bolton to play in the five a side competition.

“We took both an Under 19 and an Under 16 team and it’s safe to say they gave our neighbours in Bolton a bit of a footballing lesson!”
