A dramatic ending to the local derby against Bolton Wanderers which saw substitute Nick Powell equalise in the 88th minute and Jordi Gomez’s penalty saved by Adam Bogdan in the fifth minute of injury time, left
Uwe Rosler in two minds during his post-match interview with Latics Player.
Responding to his side’s draw, Rosler said:
“I don’t really know whether I should be happy or whether I should be disappointed.
“I’m disappointed with the performance because we had top players out there, international players, and we weren’t at the races. We were not ready for a derby game with that intensity.
“On the other hand I’m happy with the way we changed our game in the second half and with the way our substitutions helped us to get into a position whereby we could have won in the last minute of the game.
“It was a fantastic progression throughout the 90 minutes and the subs really helped us.
“Unfortunately we couldn’t convert the penalty, but there is nobody to be blamed because that can happen in football.”
Rosler praised the second half effort from Latics, and compared the performance at the Reebok Stadium to the one his side put in in the reverse fixture on his home debut as manager.
“We put a lot of pressure on Bolton at the end and that is a big contrast from my first game back in December.
“We were under the cosh for 45 minutes at the DW Stadium, but three months later on the road we did completely the opposite.
“We made sure that we pushed and pushed in the final moments to try and win the game. The spirit was good and the fitness was good, so next time we will win.”
Focussing on Latics next game in just a few days, Rosler continued:
“We’ve got to move on and make sure that our performances going forwards are better than today, especially when we face Leicester on Tuesday.
“We will definitely take that fighting spirit into the game, but one or two things need to be addressed and we will now start to rotate our players less because a few of them are losing momentum.”
