Match Preview

Wigan Athletic prepare to entertain Yeovil Town in Tuesday’s Sky Bet Championship match at the DW Stadium looking for a Club record ninth straight win in all competitions and seventh consecutive league win.

The impressive run continued on Saturday away at Portman Road where two goals from James McClean either side of a Leon Barnet goal sealed a 3-1 victory over Ipswich Town.

Latics boss Uwe Rosler has reiterated his call for supporters not to get too carried away and certainly not to take anything for granted on Tuesday night, asking for fans to turn out in big numbers and get behind the team in what he expects to be a very difficult game.

Yeovil are a team capable putting in a match winning performance against any team in the division as they have proven several times this season, but Wigan Athletic’s recent  form has seen them shoot to the top of the Championship form table.

Team News

Uwe Rosler has said that Leon Barnett will not be involved in the game, the defender hobbled off at Portman Road with an ice pack strapped to his hamstring, the full extent of his injury still to be fully assessed.

Shaun Maloney and Gary Caldwell could make another reserve appearance against Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday afternoon as they both step up their recovery but are not expected to feature against Yeovil.  Roger Espinoza, Ben Watson and Chris McCann remain sidelined.

Yeovil, who named only six substitutes for their game at QPR, will be boosted by the return of Joe Ralls who has completed his three-match ban following his dismissal at Reading.

Ruben Palazuelos was withdrawn during the warm before the game against QPR on Saturday and is a doubt for this fixture.  Liam Davies is the only long term injured.  Duane Holmes, withdrawn after just 29 minutes of the QPR game, has returned to parent club Huddersfield.

Head to Head

This will be only the second meeting between the two teams, the first was earlier in the season when Latics were 1-0 winners through Marc-Antoine Fortune’s 78th minute goal. [Click here] for the full head to head.
