Wigan Athletic make the trip to South Yorkshire this Tuesday to play the re-arranged game with Sheffield Wednesday after the first attempt was abandoned after an hour on 18 December. Latics were leading in the first fixture when referee Keith Stroud decided that it was no longer safe to continue due to heavy rain, a decision which expunged James McClean's first ever Latics goal.
Tuesday night's host have seen an upturn in form since the game in December and are unbeaten since losing to Bournemouth at Hillsborough on 21 December. The run includes an impressive 6-0 win over local rivals Leeds United and an equally impressive 2-0 win at Reading on Saturday.
Defender Glenn Loovens could be back in the Sheffield Wednesday squad after overcoming a hamstring injury.
But Oguchi Onyewu (calf), Reda Johnson (hip), Martin Taylor (knee) and Kamil Zayatte (ankle) all remain absent.
Nick Powell will again be Latics’ biggest concern, the top scorer has not featured since Middlesbrough a fortnight ago through a hamstring problem. Long term absentees Gary Caldwell and Shaun Maloney remain sidelined
Head to Head
The two sides have still never completed a league fixture and prior to the abandoned game in December have previously only met in the FA Cup. [Click here] for the head to head record.
