Wigan Athletic are delighted to confirm the signing of Everton and England Under-19 defender Tyias Browning on a month-long loan deal.
The 19-year-old becomes Uwe Rosler’s first signing as Latics Manager, and is highly rated by the Toffees after signing a two-year contract extension in the summer, despite not yet making a senior appearances for the club.
An international at Under-17 level, Tyias was called up to Noel Blake’s Under-19 squad in March 2013, making his debut at that level against Turkey.
On his arrival, Browning said:
“It’s great to get my first loan experience at a young age, and I’m pleased it’s at Championship-level where I know I’ll really be tested.
“The aim is to help the team and get as many opportunities as possible; I’ve met the rest of the squad and they’ve all been great in helping me settle in.
“I know one or two of them already; I went to school with Lee Nicholls and Jack Phillips so that helps a bit, but everyone’s been very welcoming.
“Primarily, I play as a centre-half, and I can play at full-back as well, but wherever the Manager wants me to go in I will do and give 100% for the team.”
The defender will wear the number 31 shirt during his stay at Latics.
