Club pay tribute to former midfielder

The club was saddened to learn of the passing of former player Paul Comstive after a sudden illness.

The stylish midfielder was one of Harry McNally’s first signings when he arrived on a free transfer from Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 1983 and he went on to play the majority of games that year, scoring twice.

He moved on just over a year later, signing for Wrexham and his roster of clubs reads like a Who’s Who of North-West Football League clubs: alongside Latics, Rovers and Wrexham, he also played for Burnley, Bolton Wanderers and Chester City, while also featuring in the Conference for Southport, Morecambe and Chorley.

He played 45 games in total for Wigan Athletic, 35 in the Football league, scoring twice.

The club’s thoughts are with Paul’s family and friends.
