Latics fans involved in the Never Watch Alone initiative were given a behind the scenes look at the Christopher Park Training Ground earlier this month where they got the chance to meet Club boss Owen Coyle and members of his first team squad.
The Never Watch Alone scheme enables football fans with learning disabilities to watch home games at the DW Stadium by connecting them to a supporter, who acts as a ‘buddy’, watching the match with them and socialising with them before and after the game.
And the visit to Christopher Park was a special thank you to those fans already involved in the programme that also operates at Wigan Warriors and Leigh Centurions matches.
The organisers of the project, Embrace are looking for more supporters to get involved in the scheme which as well as helping participants to watch live football allows people who take part to develop friendships and interact with other members of the community.
Never Watch Alone also organises regular social events and in October held a bingo night at the DW Stadium attended by Latics legend Neil Rimmer and the FA Cup.
