Wigan Athletic Community Trust has recruited five new apprentices and this week they got the chance to meet manager Owen Coyle.
The young people have just started an 18 month apprenticeship with the Community Trust and will work on a range of range of football and sports projects during their placements while also gaining a level 3 qualification in sport.
The apprentices scheme is run in partnership with Pro-Co one of Wigan’s leading learning and skills providers and who manage the Montrose Skills Hub facility that the Community Trust operate from.
Head of Community Tom Flower said: “This is the second year in a row that we have been able to provide apprenticeship opportunities to young people from Wigan.
“The programme that we run allows them to earn a salary, gain a range of qualifications and more importantly get valuable experience of working for a professional football club.
“We have just appointed one of our former apprentices to a full time permanent position with the Trust and a number of our other full times coaches have been apprentices themselves.
“It’s great that the Club can offer job and training opportunities to unemployed young people in Wigan.”
