If you have thought of entering a running event for charity following the success of the Wigan 10k there is not long to wait. The Wigan Rotary 5Km RUN 4 A LIFE event will take place on Sunday 29th September with the start and finish at the DW Stadium.
Now in its ninth year all the profits from the event will be donated to men's cancer research at Christies Hospital via the local Men Matter Appeal Charity.
Rotary Club President Terry Hogan explained ‘ The distance is only just over three miles and you can run, jog or event walk the course if you wish. It is not an event just for men and it would be great to see women, children or families taking part,’
Men Matter Appeal chairman and Wigan resident Bernard Edmunds said ‘ One man dies every hour of prostate cancer in the UK and over 2000 young men are affected by testicular cancer. Yet only about half the money is spent on research compared to women’s cancers. The more money we can raise the more we can help Christies with this important research.’
Terry Hogan continued ‘ We would also be delighted to see anyone who wishes to be sponsored to raise money for Joining Jack as well. Even if you walk the course it should only take about an hour. So why not give an hour for charity and get a bit of exercise at the same time.’
You can enter the event on line by going to www.run4alife.com or ring 07813 471000.
