Wigan Fit Fans is a 12 week programme that’s aims to get men in Wigan taking part in more sport and physical activity and the ten runners have all completed the programme.
They will be running in Sunday’s race wearing Wigan Athletic kit having been presented with their tops before Saturday’s home game against Nottingham Forest by Latics Legend Neil Rimmer.
Neil, who is an ambassador for the Fit Fans programme, said: “It’s great that the lads are taking part in the 10k.
“The Fit Fans project is a good way for people to get fit and healthy and the fact that some of them are now running the 10k shows how far they have come.”
Wigan Fit Fans is funded by the Premier League/PFA Community Fund and is run in conjunction with Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust.
Paul Jones, 38 from Ashton, lost half a stone thanks to the project. He said: “Fit Fans has helped me gain confidence in my abilities and become so much fitter.
“Taking part in the Wigan 10k is something I never would have taken part in previously, my only disappointment is that the 12 week course has ended.”
