Get to know one of our deadline day loan signings a little bit better.

Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell became Wigan Athletic’s 11th signing of the summer when he joined on loan last night and as always that means we bring you some quick facts about our new man.

1.Nick was born on 23rd March 1994, he shares his birthday with former Latics defender Ron McIvor (62)

2.After moving to Man United in the summer of 2012, Powell made a memorable debut for the club by scoring 10 minutes after coming on as a substitute against Latics last September.

3.During his first season at Old Trafford he acquired some European experience, making two starts in the Champions League against Galatasaray and CFR Cluj.

4.Before moving to Man United, Powell began his career at home town team Crewe Alexandra, where he made his debut as a 16-year-old, coming on as a substitute against Cheltenham Town in August 2010.

5.He scored his first professional aged 17 in a 3-1 away win against AFC Wimbledon in October 2011.

6.Powell went on to score 15 goals in the 2011/12 season in all competitions, most crucially in the League Two play-off final against Cheltenham as he opened the scoring after 15 minutes with Crewe going on to win 2-0 and gain promotion.

7.His impressive development has seen the 19-year-old represent England internationally from Under 16 level up to Under 21s, making his debut in November 2012 against Northern Ireland.

8.Powell is currently a member of the Under 21s side having been called up for the upcoming European Championship qualifying games against Moldova and Finland

9.While at Crewe in the 2011/12 season, Powell scooped every award at the club’s annual End of Season dinner, capturing the Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and Goal of the Season titles. He also won League Two Apprentice of the Year and a Young Player of the Month award in December 2011.

10.Nick becomes Latics’ fifth loan signing from Manchester United, following in the footsteps of Angelo Henriquez, Tom Cleverley, Michael Clegg and Keith Gillespie.
