WIGAN ATHLETIC 1
Marc-Antoine Fortune doesn't seem to score simple goals, as he netted a second thunderbolt finish in two games to settle Latics pre-season friendly against Morecambe at the Globe Arena.
Owen Coyle rotated his team from Monday's 2-1 victory over Atromitos as fresh legs were introduced and fitness levels were built up.
It was a confident start to the first half for Latics as they pressed the Morecambe defense and worked well off the ball.
The first chance of the game fell to Roger Espinoza on the edge of the area but he couldn't work a shot on target as the ball curled the wrong way and wide off his right boot.
On 14 minutes Latics best chance of the half fell to Grant Holt as a ball forward by Chris McCann was taken down on the chest by Latics' number nine between two defenders but, his attempted lob went delicately just wide of the angle of the crossbar and post.
Callum McManaman and Emmerson Boyce were their usual marauding selves as they probed down the right hand side, with Boyce dribbling between three players before forcing a save from Barry Roche, and McManaman having two powerful efforts bravely blocked in the box.
Morecambe had their chances too though, with Ryan Williams' free kick looping over the wall and forcing Scott Carson to tip over his cross.
Veteran forward Kevin Ellison proved dangerous on a number of occasions but his best effort came on 36 minutes when he shifted the ball from right foot to left on the edge of the box and powerfully struck to Carson's right but just wide as the keeper sprawled across his line.
The second half started with a flurry of chances for the hosts as Ellison proved himself a danger once again.
Ten minutes into the half he was released inside the area down the right and looked destined to score but Carson was straight off his line to block the forwards chipped shot.
Latics pushed and pushed to create an opening and changes added freshness to the line-up in a testing game for fitness.
The introduction of Jean Beausejour added extra width to the line-up and it was his keen eye for a pass that opened the Morecambe defence for the decisive goal.
Beausejour picked the ball up deep inside his own half after a Morecambe attack and waited for the crucial gap to play Fortune into.
The Chilean brought the ball to the half way line and timed his pass excellently as Fortune nipped in behind his marker, he dragged the ball from left foot to right and as soon as he'd checked back he let rip to bulge the bottom corner of the net.
Morecambe to their credit continued to press for a goal but Carson and his defence remained firm.
Latics saw out the game as Boyce missed a half chance with a header at the back post from a corner as the team sealed their fifth win from five in pre-season so far.
