Forward says he will thrive under pressure of the big occasions in the new campaign.

Speaking on the USA tour new Latics forward Grant Holt expressed his excitement about the upcoming season and explained that the large number of games will work to the team’s advantage.

Holt Said:

“In the Championship you get a lot of games in a short period of time which means you have a natural level of fitness, especially when you add in Europa League games too.

“Once you play the first game of the season you find a real rhythm and it’s important that we make sure that happens.

“We’ve got quite a few games coming up still before then so it’s going to be a tough pre-season, but it’s just about maintaining the fitness that we’ve got at the moment which will put is in a good position.”

With a minimum of 55 games this season, the former Norwich City man said he’s relishing each match as a big occasion.

“I really enjoy getting myself psyched up for games and I’ll thrive under the pressure of matches when it comes to the start of the season.

“When the season comes along I’ll be relishing competitive games because I live for the big opportunities and to score effective goals.

“The thing is that you have to adapt to the team that you play with and not necessarily the competition you’re playing in.

“I always say you’re only as good as the players around you and the players here are excellent.”

Speaking about the bonding between the group Holt added:

“There’s a great bunch of lads here, a good mix of younger players and experienced pros.

“We’ve got to know each other really well and when we’re given free time we stick together in a big group and it’s great to see everyone sticking together.

“It’s a long old season and you’re with each other for a lot of the time and you have to enjoy that.”

The 32-year-old said he was impressed by the style of his team mates and is looking forward to the service they can provide:

“We’ve got a lot of players who like to beat a man and get the ball into the box and as a striker it’s up to me to make sure I’m there to finish it off.

“In the Championship you get more chances to score goals than in the Premier League and this group of players is capable of creating a lot of opportunities.”
