Wigan Athletic starlet Danny Redmond collected the 2012/13 Under 21s Goal of the Season award and he popped along to the DW Stadium this afternoon to show us the trophy.
The winning goal came in last season's fixture away at Leeds United, a game played at Elland Road, although Leeds won the game 3-1.
"I got the ball just inside the Leeds half," Redmond describes, "I just thought I'd have a run with it as there didn't seem to be much on at the time, I took a couple of lads on and seemed to get closer and closer to the goal, then there was the 'keeper so I just skipped around him and walked it in."
Good goals tend to get labelled as goal of the season 'contenders' on the spot, but at the time he wasn't sure his strike would be up there at the end of the season.
"I thought it was a decent goal at the time but having seen some of the other goals scored in the competition I didn't think it would be picked as the best one so I'm really delighted to win."
The 22-year-old netted 8 times in 19 appearances last season for the under 21s and it's fair to say that the midfielder isn't know for scoring tap-ins.
"Yes they've all be decent to be fair, a mixture of strikes from distance and free-kicks but joking aside I'm really happy to win the award."
