Players return and are immediately put through their paces by new manager Owen Coyle

Wigan Athletic's campaign to return to the Premier League began in earnest this morning with the team put through their paces by new manager Owen Coyle at the Christopher Park Training Ground.

New signings Stephen Crainey, Chris McCann and Thomas Rogne were all out on the park with their new team mates, but there wasn't much time for pleasantries before the hard work got underway.

The atmosphere was buoyant and jovial whilst at the same time serious and focused, with smiles from players glad to be back in training after the summer break quickly followed by grimaces brought on by the punishing workout.

Keep an eye on Latics Player this week for exclusive video content as we catch up with the manager to get his thoughts on how his team fared on the first day.  We'll also be speaking with lots of the players to get their thoughts on pre-season, the new man in charge and the season ahead.
