Honduras international signs for newly promoted Hull City.

Wigan Athletic can confirm that Maynor Figueroa has agreed a deal to join Hull City from July 1 on a free transfer, after the defender’s contract expires at the end of the month.

The move brings to an end a five-year relationship between the club and player, who arrived at the then-named JJB Stadium in January 2008, signed by the man he’ll team up with once again next season, Steve Bruce.

During that period the Honduran international made 200 appearances in all competitions for the club, 179 of which coming in the Premier League, and scored six goals.

The defender made his debut as a substitute in a home match against Birmingham City, before making his first start for the club against Manchester United in May 2008.

Over the next five years he would become a firm favourite with the Latics fans, and develop a habit of scoring spectacular goals including one from the half-way line against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium in 2009, and a sweet strike against Nottingham Forest in the Capital One Cup last season.

His final appearance in a Wigan Athletic shirt came against Tottenham Hotspur at the DW Stadium in April, before picking up an injury that brought a premature end to his campaign.
