Callum McManaman has been called up to the England Under 21 squad for this summer’s European Under 21 Championships in Isreal.
It is the first time the Latics forward has been named in the squad, having represented the Under 20 side in the 2011 World Cup in Colombia, but recent performances in the first team and a Man of the Match display in the FA Cup Final have led to Stuart Pearce calling up the 22-year-old.
“I’ve made it my business over the last six weeks to have a real good luck at Callum,” said Pearce. “I think he’s finding his confidence now, he’s being nurtured very at Wigan Athletic.
“He’s played so well and the culmination of that was a fantastic game in the Final. That will give his self-esteem the world of good.”
England’s campaign begins next month with their opening group game against Italy, shortly followed by fixtures against Norway and host nation Israel.
