ROCHDALE UNDER 18s 5
Tanser 18 (pen), 45, 62 (pen)
Hare o.g. 45
WIGAN ATHLETIC UNDER 18s 0
Rochdale came out winners in the 2013 LFA Youth Cup final as left back Scott Tanser scored a hat trick with two penalties and a goal from inside his own half.
Latics fell behind to an unfortunate penalty early on and couldn't recover as Rochdale extended their lead throughout the game.
It was a fast paced start to the first half with relatively open possession but neither side forced a chance in the opening 15 minutes.
On 17 minutes the hosts were given their break through when a push from Ryan Jennings on Daniel Whitehall forced the referee to point straight to the penalty spot.
Tanser stepped up to take and expertly tucked the ball into Hare's left hand corner.
It was a bitter pill to swallow for Latics who hadn't given their opponents much encouragement in the opening stages.
Another settled spell of the game was to follow until the half an hour mark when first Aaron Ashley was forced into a low save from Latics' Matty Hamilton and then Hare was under pressure straight away at the other end saving low from Jamie Allen.
On 41 minutes Rochdale doubled their lead with a contentious goal as Connor Martin's cross was turned into his own goal by Hare, although pressure from Whitehall looked to be a foul.
Hare lay in pain on the floor as the ball settled in the net and he was forced off and replaced by Michael Cottrill.
A matter of seconds into his substitute appearance and Cottrill was beaten for 3-0, whether it was a fluke or not will only be known by left back Tanser who struck from inside his own half under pressure from Christian Mather and the ball floated 50 yards over the top of Cottrill's head who couldn't quite tip the ball over the bar.
If it wasn't for an excellent save by Cottrill inside five minutes of stoppage time Latics would have been 4-0 down as he pushed a low Cannon shot just wide of his right post.
After half time Latics started brightly and it should have been 3-1 when Jennings avoided three challenges down the middle and sprinted through on goal, only to drag his right footed effort wide of the goal in a one-on-one.
Just after the hour mark on 62 minutes Rochdale made it 4-0 when Cannon won another penalty and Tanser stepped up to seal his hat trick.
Eight minutes later the hosts added a fifth as Joel Logan rose at the back post to nod home a corner.
Rochdale continued to pres Latics but substitute Sam Cosgrove showed a real glimpse of quality when he danced between defenders in the Rochdale area but unfortunately had his low effort smothered by the home sides' goalkeeper.
It wasn't to be for Latics in the cup final as Rochdale claimed the silverware.
