Roger Espinoza explains how whether substitute or starter, everyone is ready for the final games of the season.

Honduran midfielder Roger Espinoza came on as a late substitute in Latics’ 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday and although disappointed with the result, he said it showed that the team is ready for the run in.

“It shows that our team can compete with anybody in terms of intensity and quality and that is apparent all the way through the squad,” said Espinoza.

“We got our confidence back for the second half and we began to think we could win the game.

“I thought overall we did pretty well but if we were able to keep the ball a little more we would have won the game.”

Espinoza added that in different circumstances a point wouldn’t have been a bad result, saying:

“I think after Tottenham’s first goal if we had drawn level but not gone ahead then a draw would have looked an okay result.

“We played against one of the top teams in England and more than matched them in a lot of departments.

“With four games to go the draw isn’t too bad and things are still in our hands but we should have won the game.”

The 26-year-old was introduced with 11 minutes remaining on Saturday and he said he will be ready whenever he’s called upon.

“Every game whether I’m playing or not I’m always ready to give me very best for this team.

“I haven’t played that much lately but I’m still very committed to the cause.

“I think I helped the team well during my time on the pitch but at the end we didn’t get the three points and that’s the only thing that mattered.”

With Latics facing West Bromwich Albion in their penultimate away game of the season, Espinoza said the desire to win is stronger than ever.

“We go out in every game to win, that’s just natural for any footballer.

“We’ll do our best to win against West Brom in the next game and I think people have seen in the past that we can be a very good away team.

“It gives us a great opportunity to win games if you play with that attitude, especially away from home.”
