Franco Di Santo praises performance and talks through his golden chance.

Speaking after last night’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City , Di Santo started by explaining his first half effort that almost saw Latics take the lead.

The Argentinian international said:

“In that moment I had time to think and it was a mistake, despite the goalkeeper making a very good save.

“Sometimes too much time on the ball can be a problem but I thought I did well with Shaun Maloney to create the chance.

“If an opportunity like that comes up again then I’ll make sure that I score the goal for the team and the fans.”

Di Santo was one of two changes made by Roberto Martinez last night as he came in for Callum McManaman and Joel Robles replaced Ali Al Habsi.

It was a game which the forward believes may have been the performance of the season from the team.

“We should have won the game or at least got a point but maybe we got a little bit unlucky.

“It was arguably our best performance of the season in the way that we took the game to Manchester City.

“Everybody did their jobs really well and we know that if we play like that in the rest of the games then we will be okay.”

Di Santo added that the manner of the performance was a highlight and something the team can really build on.

“They have only lost once at home against Manchester United and I think we showed them how we can play and we were unfortunate not to be the second team to beat them at the Etihad Stadium.

“They only had two chances and they managed to score, which is a sign of how well we did as a team to stop them from playing.

“I’m confident that if we can play like that again though, we will be able to come away with positive results in our last run of games.”
