Latics first team stars Jean Beausejour, James McCarthy and Danny Redmond showed off their soccer skills last week to 75 youngsters on a football course organised by Wigan Athletic Community Trust.
The young people were taking part in a three day Pay as You Play Football Camp at Shevington High School and had paid just £5 a day to receive high quality football coaching from the Community Trust’s coaches.
Throughout Easter a range of different football activities were organised by Wigan Athletic Community Trust and the camp at Shevington saw record numbers of participants take part.
Midfielder, James said: “It was great to see so many young people enjoying themselves and taking part in football coaching with the Club.
“It’s always good when we get the chance to do things in the community and we were happy to help out.”
During their visit the players signed autographs as well as taking part in a special skills competition, with youngster Danny Redmond being voted the winner by the young people on the camp.
Wigan Athletic Community Trust coach, Azz Seddik who helped to organise the camp said: “It was a really good three days at Shevington and for the players to come to the session on the Friday was a great way to end the week.
“When we suggested the skills competition they were up for it and their competitive nature soon came out and the young people thought that Danny was the winner.”
