Latics fell down to a Paul Mullin hat trick at Huddersfield Town’s Canalside Sports Complex, despite a high tempo performance and equaliser before half time.

John Doolan gave a start to Under 16 full back Lloyd Bannister and right back Jamie Gibson moved into the centre of defence.

It was a slow start to the game but after eight minutes Latics had conceded when Mullins claimed his first of the afternoon turning in a William Boyle flick on at the back post.

The goal sparked the visitors into gear and Latics suddenly began testing Ed Wilczynski in the Huddersfield goal.

Seven minutes before the break Latics had deservedly equalised  when Jamie Gibson capitalised on a loose ball in the area from a set piece and fired home.

Five minutes after the break it was Mullin again who scored for the Terriers when he rounded Calvin Hare but Latics remained in the game at 2-1 until a third goal game ten minutes from time.

It was a Huddersfield Under 15 player Regan Booty who made it 3-1, before Mullin completed his hat trick in the final minute again in a one-on-one with the keeper.

Latics were able to give vital experience to another Under 16 player Omar Carey who came on as a substitute in the second half.
