The FA Cup has been a happy stomping ground for new fan-favourite Roman Golobart who has played in all three of Latics’ ties so far.

He admitted that it has been a tough period but said he was always confident of being able to step up to the mark in English football.

Golobart said:

“It has been a testing few games in the FA Cup but it has been really important for me to play three games so close together.

“I’ve played in divisions like the SPL and League One which in some ways are very similar to FA Cup ties because of the physical nature so I’ve really enjoyed my time in the team recently.

“When I was at Inverness Terry Butcher always told me that with my physique I have an advantage in any team, especially when it comes down to being powerful and he said once I get the rest of my game to the same level and prepare myself mentally then I will fit in very well to British football.”

Latics kept their second consecutive clean sheet in the FA Cup on Saturday against Macclesfield, something which Golobart said shows the hard work that the team are putting in.

He said:

“Macclesfield tested us at the back and we had to deal with their aerial threat.

“It was really important to keep another clean sheet because it’s always hard in English football and the score lines in games are often very high like 4-2, 3-2 and 2-2.

“I think a clean sheet in any game is a great achievement and it showed how well we did without the ball.”

The 20-year-old added:

“I’m going to carry on working really hard now and I’m excited to see who we get in the next round and hopefully I will be able to make a contribution to the team in the FA Cup once again.”
