Roberto Martinez admitted that whilst he had hoped for a home tie in the fifth round of the FA Cup he is excited at the prospect of taking on either Leicester City or Huddersfield Town in the next stage of the competition.
Latics progressed to the final 16 of the cup for the first time since 1987 with their 1-0 win over Macclesfield Town on Saturday, courtesy of Jordi Gomez’s first-half penalty, and the gaffer is sure his squad’s next encounter will be another tough one, saying:
“Any game away from home is going to be a difficult one no matter who you’re playing, and these are two teams who are very strong playing in their own stadium.
“It’ll be a tough game whoever we are to play, but exciting as well to be a part of the fifth round of the competition.
“If you could choose one thing before the draw is made it would be to play at home, but it’s a factor that cannot be controlled and we have to be excited at the prospect of the next game.”
