Wigan Athletic are delighted to confirm that Shaun Maloney has signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract which will keep him at the club until 2015.
The midfielder has made 33 league appearances for this club since arriving from Celtic in August 2011, and made his return to the international scene in May 2012 when Scotland faced USA.
So far this term he has made 20 starts in the Barclays Premier League and scored two goals, against Stoke City and Norwich City, having played a key role in the club’s survival in the top flight last season.
Manager Roberto Martinez said:
“We’re delighted that Shaun has committed his future to the club. From the first day he arrived his professionalism and determination to succeed has been outstanding and an example for the younger members of the group to follow.
“Shaun is one of the most technically gifted British players that you will find, but on top of his style and footballing flair his work-rate and purpose in his performances make him a key member of our future at Wigan Athletic.
“I’m sure the fans are looking forward to watching him continue to enjoy his football at Latics for a long time.”
