Roberto Martinez has spoken of his wishes for 2013 on and off the pitch after the club announced good news with the latest financial statements for the year ending May 2012.
For the first time in six years the club was able to announce a net profit, of £4.3million compared to £7.2 loss the previous year.
Martinez wants developments off the pitch to go hand-in-hand with success on it and outlined his plans for the next twelve months, saying:
“2012 was a special year for Wigan Athletic, and it’s important that 2013 is an even better one.
“Our resolution as a club is probably to ensure we finalise certain foundations we’re trying to build which will improve the overall structure; the training ground is vital to that and in continuing our development of youngsters.
“A lot of work has gone into being able to announce a healthy financial statement, and it’s important that year on year we worked to keep strengthening those numbers.
“We have a good, healthy team full of competition and quality which is very important, but to also announce over £4million profit is unique in the modern game but credit to everyone at the club for making it happen.
“The Chairman has always set the direction for the running of the football club and I’m sure he’ll be pleased with the figures which we hope to keep improving in the coming years.
“On the pitch, the key is to be able to influence both penalty areas more, because our performances lately have been of the highest level and the next twelve months needs to bring rewards with that.
“As always the only way of achieving that is by being together as a club and being proud of who we are, as players, staff and fans we all have a big role to play in the future of our football club.”
