“We created a lot of chances against Arsenal and I thought we dominated for large spells of the game, this is something we need to replicate on Boxing Day against Everton,” said the 22-year-old.
“If we play like we did against Arsenal then a positive results is there for the taking against Everton and for that matter, in every game we play from now until the end of the season.
“We need to take our chances against Everton and if we do then the confidence will be flowing.”
While in good spirits and carrying confidence from the manner of the team’s performance against Arsenal, McCarthy realises the dangers that Everton possess.
“Everton are a tough side and they’ve proved that with their results this season, especially in the manner they beat West Ham United because we know that they’re a tough team to beat.
“We all know what to expect from Everton because they have a very versatile style.”
“Everyone needs to dig in deep during the Christmas period as they always do and we’ve got great options now despite the injury problems.
“The competition for places in the midfield is very high and it keeps us on our toes which means nobody can slack off.
“I think that will put us in a good position against Everton because they too have a very strong midfield with players like Leon Osman and Steven Pienaar.”
