Wigan Athletic will wear their brand new third strip against Newcastle United on Monday evening at St. James’ Park, wearing all red for the first time since 2003.
Roberto’s red army are unable to play in blue & white stripes or black due to the home side’s shirt designs, the red kit will make its debut this season evoking memories of Latics’ Division Two title triumph in the 2002/03 campaign.
This time round the design has gone one step further with no piping or additional features, just all red from head to toe with the goalkeeper wearing the usual away green strip.
Roberto Martinez said: “It’s a striking kit and I’m sure the players will enjoy pulling it on for the first time on Monday night.
“We have some very happy memories of playing in red kits and I feel it’s important that you associate iconic kits with success. Hopefully we will be able to look back on Monday’s game with similar sentiments.”
Fans can get hold of this season's third shirt from the Club Shop in the Grand Arcade Shopping Centre, Wigan or online at laticsshop.net with adults shirts priced from £39.99 and juniors from £29.99
