After an impressive opening to the npower League Two campaign with the Cobblers, Wigan Athletic can confirm that 20-year-old goalkeeper Lee Nicholls will remain at Sixfields for the rest of the season.
Nicholls returned to Latics last week and featured for the Under 21s against Leicester City at the weekend but, manager Roberto Martinez sees an extended period with Northampton as the keepers' best chance for progression.
"Lee has really enjoyed being involved in a first team environment," said the gaffer.
"His performances so far have been fantastic and he is improving with every game which is making him a big part of Northampton's team.
"We will be keeping a close eye on Lee because he is a fantastic prospect for the future and has a great attitude towards his career."
As part of Nicholls' loan move, Latics do have the option to recall him should they need to, with a 24-hour notice period.
