Superstitions run high in preparations to games but, Shaun Maloney is one man who is as cool as they come and for him a match day morning is time for focus and contemplation.
“I don’t have any particular superstitions; my preparations are pretty ordinary really.
“We usually stop over at a hotel the night before and then have a set routine before the game for eating lunch and that sort of thing.
“We get up and have a bit of breakfast, have a walk around, most of the lads listen to music and then we have our pre-match meal.”
Next stop for Maloney and the team is the DW Stadium as they make their way to be greeted by dedicated supporters.
“It’s great when you get to the stadium and the fans are there waiting.
“Chelsea was good and so was Stoke because it has pretty much carried on from last year with the feel good factor around the Club.
“At the end of last season it was a great boost and we really appreciate what the fans did for us.
“At other clubs some fans might get on the team’s back but here it has always just been support.
“I hope that they know we appreciate their support so much and we want to give them something back like we did at the end of last season.”
