FA confirm that Latics midfielder free to play

The club can confirm that following an appeal to the FA, the red card shown to midfielder Jordi Gomez by referee Howard Webb following a tackle with Sunderland midfielder Danny Rose in the Barclays Premier League game at the Stadium of Light on Saturday September 28, has now been rescinded.

The club submitted video evidence, along with a personal letter from manager Roberto Martinez to explain the reasoning behind the appeal.

Martinez said: “It does not bring back the time lost when Jordi had to leave the field but I am delighted that we can draw a line under this incident and that Jordi is available for us on Saturday.”
